Genesis 3 - 0 Loughborough Town
The Genesis boys were well up for this game after being on the end of a shock defeat the previous week. We looked the better team for the whole game. Town did create a few chances but an superb performance by the defence meant that Genesis kept a clean sheet. Genesis went ahead with a cracking strike from Ian Robertson who hit the post and the ball went across the goal, hit the keeper on the back and went it!!
Ian scored his second from a freekick. An real touch of class as the ball curled into the top corner with the keeper no where near. Ian went on to bag his hattrcik after some nice link up play and a square ball from Patman. Ian hit it first time and left the keeper no chance. A great team effort, a reminder of the class thats in there. Ian was MoM.
Genesis Res 4 - 5
Facing some quick and clinical strikers for the first time this season, Genesis started sluggishly and when the defence was caught flat-footed on a couple of occasions, found themselves punished and 2-0 down inside the first 10 minutes. Vinny was injured trying to stop the second one and Pete Baines came on and replaced him in goal. From then on we started to get our act together and were unfortunate not to go into the break with at least a goal to our name after hitting the crossbar and upright. 2nd half we came out knowing we needed a performance but were soon 3-0 down to a quality free-kick. We kept fighting though and finally got a goal when Curran released Nige who slotted past the keeper. They responded again straight away to make it 4-1, but our heads didn't go down, and as well as us managing to hit the post and bar another couple of times, Nige picked up his hat-trick after being sent clear by first Parker and then Bartek. At 4-3 and with 15 minutes still to play we were well on top in all departments, and made it 4-4 when Curran sent Nige through for his and the team's fourth. We looked like nicking it, but they were the last to score with a very lucky deflection following a long-throw into the box. Gutting. We showed great spirit in coming back from three goals down, but then that also showed how good we can be and how beatable this team really were. With a couple of teams in the division yet to drop any points, we now need to go on that long-winning run that we're clearly capable of to get back in it. (4 goals for Nige, an assist each for Parker and Bartek, and two for Curran. MoM was shared between Parker and Nige).
